Oliver Eli Evans
Oliver Eli Evans, 92, of Springfield died at 10:06 pm Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born June 29, 1920 in Fayetteville, AR to Oliver James and Retta Hagerman Evans. He married Virginia Swanik February 15, 1940 and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, William David Evans; daughter, Peggy Baker; grandson; David Baker; brother, Bert Wetzel and two sisters, Geneva Price and Mildred Wade.
Mr. Evans was a resident of Springfield most of his life. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church and a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II. Oliver was a member of the Eagles and VFW Post #32. He retired from Pillsbury Mills.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Ann (William, deceased) Shaw of Girard; a son, Joe (Diane) Evans of Springfield; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 11 am – 12pm, Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 noon, Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Sr. Mary Jean Traeger, O.P. officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be given to Right to Life.
