Norris S. Ramsey
SPRINGFIELD – Norris S. Ramsey, 87, of Springfield, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Home.
He was born April 13, 1920, in Jerseyville, the son of William Morrison and Mary Elizabeth Reed Ramsey. He married Dorothy L. Cox in 1976. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Lawrence and Robert.
Mr. Ramsey, a resident of Springfield most of his life, was a yard clerk and yardmaster for C&IM Railroad for 36 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and VFW Post 755.
Surviving are three stepdaughters, Sue (husband, Richard) Eggleston, Barbara (husband, Norman) Nation and Patricia (husband, Joseph) Kaidell, all of Springfield; two stepsons, Gale Jim (wife, Patricia) Cox Jr. of Springfield and Thomas (wife, Jeanne) Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kurzydlo of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home with Monsignor John R. Ossola and Pastor Rudolph Muzzarelli officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
