Nina Erlene Schafer
Nina Erlene Schafer, 84, of Springfield, died at 7:53 pm, Friday, March 28, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born October 18, 1929 in Clarence, MO to Ervin and Virgie (Cross) Walker. She married Raymond “Pat” Schafer on September 3, 1951 and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (Nicholas) Ketchum and Patricia (Michael) Ratterree both of Springfield; six sons, Stephen Schafer of Arvada, CO, Paul Schafer of Miami, FL, Dennis Schafer of Albuquerque, NM, Scott (Debbie) Schafer of Arvada, CO, James (Andrea) Schafer and Robert Schafer both of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother Earl (Eula Mae) Walker of Macon, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents and one son, Anthony Schafer, preceded her in death.
She was a resident of Springfield most of her life and worked for the Illinois State Police and The Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, enjoyed crocheting and loved her Pomeranians, Crystal and Coco.
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
