Nadine Harwood of Springfield followed her husband to their eternal glory on the same day, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 3:30 pm at The Regency. She was born on November 17, 1932 in Springfield, to Winifred and Samuel Earl Simpson. She married Don Harwood November 3, 1951. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, parents and one brother, Robert Simpson.

Survivors include three children, Mark (Linda) Harwood; Gregg (Paula) Harwood; Cindi Layendecker all of Springfield; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nadine was very active in Nu Phi Mu, Beta Sigma Pi, Kings Daughters, and Jayshees, serving in multiple leadership positions. She retired from the State Board of Education after 21 years of service, where she also held leadership roles in AFSCME. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and the former Zenobia Baptist Church, where she was actively involved.

She enjoyed being with her family and loved family activities, including many children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and knitting.

She will always be remembered for her generosity, loving kind heart and her Precious Moments Collection.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Central Baptist Church, 501 South 4th, with a Celebration of Life, service at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Central Baptist Church.
