Murlyn T. Garwood
Murlyn T. Garwood, 93, of Springfield, died at 3:50 am, Monday, January 9, 2017, at Concordia Village. He was born January 28, 1923, in Augusta, IL to John and Louise Butler Garwood. He married Dorothy Calhoun on May 15, 1948, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane (James) Garwood-Cutler and Joyce A. Garwood; three grandchildren, Julia (Michael) Boyce, Jason (Jennifer) Cutler, and Jill (Robert) Boyce; seven great grandchildren, Clara, Sean, Aaron, Evan, Clark, Lucy and Jack; one sister, Pauline Bennett; niece, Sara (George) Bradfield; nephew, John Bennett, and special friend, Waldo Richey.
Murlyn was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Telephone Pioneers of America. He served as a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center for over 25 years.
Murlyn worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring after 40 years of service in 1981. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II in the South Pacific.
Private services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Social Services or Memorial Medical Center Foundation.

My sympathies to Murlyn's family. I knew him from Faith Lutheran Church. He was a very nice man-we always enjoyed talking to him.
