Mollie Poffenberger

Mollie Poffenberger, 80, of Springfield, IL passed away after a long battle of colon cancer at 9:40 pm Monday, April 8, 2013 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born January 19, 1933 in Nova Scotia, Canada to Robert Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Collins Webber, Sr. She married Richard A. Poffenberger on December 10, 1955 and he survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Juanita Darby.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; two daughters, Kim (David) Gebhardt-Swanson of Springfield and Melody (Leonard) Gary of Astor, FL; two sons, Richard A. Poffenberger, Jr. of Springfield and Charles “Tony” (Fiancé Lynn Jeffries) Poffenberger of Zephyrhills, FL; twelve grandchildren, Jonathan “JD” (Becky) Gebhardt, Jason (Emily) Gebhardt, Jeremy (Trisha) Gebhardt, Stephanie Swanson, Richard A. Poffenberger III, Rebecca Poffenberger, Katharine (David) Nasworthy, Kyle (Sylvia) Poffenberger, Kolton Poffenberger, Krammer Poffenberger, Clifford (Amy) Gary and Daniel (Kristen) Gary; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Inez Herring of Dothan, AL, Joyce (Jimmy) Lamb of Sumter, SC and Roxie Wingate of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Robert L. (Carole) Webber, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and eleven nieces and nephews.

Mollie was formally of Florida and Alabama and most recently moved to Springfield. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dothan, AL. She enjoyed spending time with her family; especially being around her grandkids and great grandkids.

Memorial Gathering: 11am-12 pm Friday, April 12, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.

Memorial Service: 12 pm Friday, April 12, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Gross officiating.

In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to a memorial fund established by the family for Colon Cancer Research.
