Survivors include five sisters; Patricia Self of Springfield, Betty (Dan) Henderson of Florida, Joyce (Rick, deceased) Vanbaalen of Lakeland, FL, Wanda (Randy) Kissick of Kingfisher, OK, and Chris (Kyle) Wagner of Fountain Town, IN; one brother; Bob (Siriluck) Self of Fishers, IN; one sister-in-law; Vicki Self of Muncie, IN, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gary, Charles, and Larry Joe.
Michael was a U.S. Army veteran and worked at Meijer for four years. Previously he was employed for 16 years at First Presbyterian Church, Springfield, IL.
Mike was the best brother anyone could ask for. He was a wonderful, caring man who lived his life as he wanted. He was always there whenever he was needed. He was particularly helpful to the sister whom he shared a home with. When people say “he would give you the shirt off his back” they would be talking about him. He is going to be missed so very much, not just by his family, but by the many friends he leaves behind. You did not have to know him for very long to know that he was a kind and caring person. He had a heart of gold and heaven definitely gained an Angel.
Per Mike’s request cremation has been accorded.
A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30 am until time of service at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Ron Waltrip officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Animal Protective League.

I worked with mike this past year as his supervisor. He always did what I had asked him to do and plus some and was always willing to stay and helped meout in tough situations. He was really a caring person and we always joked to each other about how big the loads were and I always said we are going to have another fun night at Meijer and he always laughed. He will be greatly missed an I send my condolences to the selfe family
