Mercedes E. "Ceda" Sponsler
Mercedes E. “Ceda” Sponsler, 87, of Springfield, died at 5:35 am, Thursday, September 25, 2014, at St. John’s Hospice. She was born August 1, 1927 in Detroit, MI, to Galen and Susan Hambarski Sutphin. She married Robert T. Sponsler on November 25, 1948, and he survives.
Also surviving are seven children, Mike (Jan) Sponsler of Rochester, Tom (Kit) Sponsler of Petersburg, George (Mary Ann) Sponsler of Sherman, Nancy (Brian) Jameson of Springfield, Ray, (Stella) Sponsler of Auburn, Gail (John) Slack of Fort Collins, CO and Amy Sponsler of Champaign-Urbana; fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Phyllis) Sutphin of Ashland; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Sponsler of Collinsville and Maxine Rhodes of Lewistown and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Avis Thomas and two brothers Bernard and Donald.
Mrs. Sponsler was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. She was a resident of Springfield most of her life and was a homemaker.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home. The Family has requested casual attire.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Monday, September 29, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Janoski officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
