SPRINGFIELD – Marylou Schwerdtner, 79, of Springfield died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Heritage Manor in Carlinville.
She was born April 5, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Raymond and Frieda Koleske Fugate. She married Leslie Schwerdtner in 1950 and divorced in 1975. She married Joseph Garvey in 1976.
She was preceded in death by Leslie Schwerdtner, Joseph Garvey and a grandson, Timothy Flinn.
She worked as a sampler in the Springfield area for years and then worked at Jewel for 14 years in the Pier 14 Seafood Dept. She retired in 2003.
She is survived by three daughters and one son, Dianne (George) Koehler of Austin, TX, Linda (Mike) Butler of Pawnee, and Jacki (Steve) Kennedy of Crosby, TX, Carl (Diane) Schwerdtner of Carlinville; grandchildren, Richard and James Tennant, Heather Flinn, Jennifer Konneker, Melanie Carey, and Amanda and Eric Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Ashley and James Brooks, Jordyn and Brandon Carey and Marliegh Konneker. She is also survived by one aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was a member of Eagles Aerie 437 Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary Post 10302. She enjoyed flower gardening and socializing.
Visitation will be at Staab Funeral Home from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2009. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor George Bucks will officiate. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Illinois.
