Maryann Sgro
Maryann Sgro, 80, of Springfield, died at 12:56 am, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Kindred Hospital. She was born August 13, 1932 in Springfield to Carl E. and Ann J. Bakunas Senger. She married Samuel Anthony Sgro on May 9, 1953 and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on February 5, 2000.
Her parents and one daughter, Cheryl Sgro Ellis, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Sgro of Springfield; four grandchildren, Kelly Ann Cox and Jason Gregory Cox both of Springfield; Michael Sgro Morettini and Kristina Sgro Ellis both of Alpharetta, GA; two step-grandchildren, Rebekka (Hugh) Connelly of GA and Russell (Kristin) Ellis of Chicago; one brother Lawrence Senger of Springfield; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Sophie.
Maryann was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She attended Springfield Junior College (now Benedictine) until Sam swept her off her feet. She retired in 1995 as Vice President of Security Federal Savings & Loan. She was a member of Christ the King Church and Springfield Garden Club. She enjoyed her monthly lunch with her Sacred Heart Alumni girls, who remained dear to her. She cherished her fruitful garden, taking care of her yard and of course enjoyed shopping. She was the most wonderful mom and caretaker of everyone she loved, always there when anything went wrong, no questions asked. We will never be able to replace the wonderful person she was and will miss her dearly.
Visitation: 10-11 am, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Christ the King Church.
Funeral Mass: 11 am, Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Christ the King Church with Monsignor David Lantz and Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Sojourn Women’s Shelter.

We are so sad for the loss of our neighbor Maryann. We frequently chatted on days we were working in our yards. She will be missed.
