M. Susan Wesley

December 16, 1940 - November 27, 2020

M. Susan Wesley, 79, of Virden, formerly of Springfield died at 10:36 pm, Friday, November 27, 2020 at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab after succumbing to COVID. She was born December 16, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois to Thomas G. and Marjorie (Stevenson) Sullivan. She married Frank “Skip” Wesley on February 27, 1960 and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2016.

She is survived by three children, Kimberly (Tom) Purcell of Berkley, MI, Ronald (Sun Young) Wesley of New Albany, OH and Ted (Sheri Korth) Wesley of Plano, TX; six grandchildren, Tom III, Jared and Samantha Purcell and Nicholas, James and Katelynn Wesley; four great grandchildren, Cathleen, Alaina and Frank Wesley and Abigail Purcell; one sister, Ann (Fred) Flanigan of Sun City, Arizona.

Sue primarily lived, worked and raised her family in Springfield, IL and for a time in Hannibal, MO. Sue was such a positive bubbly person, always having a smile on her face; a hug to be given and a devoted animal owner. Sue truly loved her family and friends and always wanted them to know exactly how important they were to her. It has been said the most recognizable aspect of Sue was her beautiful laugh.

Sue was a faith filled person who truly loved her Catholic Faith and was active in several different parishes during her life. An excerpt from a Linda Ellis poem, sums up those who loved Sue…”the important part to remember isn’t the dates of birth – death…what’s important is the ‘dash’ between those dates. What made her…her.”

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 24, 2021 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Daniel Bergbower officiating.

In honor of Sue’s decades long fight with Alzheimer’s, Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org

CDC Protocol shall be followed.
