Mary Jo Brahler, 84, of Springfield, died at 5:50 pm, Friday, August 30, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born February 24, 1935 in Springfield to Christian Joseph and Ella Cecilia (Murray) Brahler.

Survivors include three daughters, Chris (Steve) Pullen of Dunlap, IL, Terri (Michael) Flynn of River Forest, IL, and Kelly Moreland of Peoria, IL; one son, Len (Carole) Urbas of Evergreen, CO; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Benanti of Springfield and Barbara (Larry) Ziliak of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, John Brahler of Springfield; and one sister-in-law, Mary Brahler of Quincy and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Joe, Jim, and Bill Brahler; three sisters, Nancy Ryan, Mary Louise Brahler, and Dorothy Brahler.

Mary Jo retired from IL Bell and also managed Nancy’s Closet. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Mary Jo was an avid advocate for the poor. She was actively involved with St. Martin de Porres and the St. Louise de Marillac Society. She loved to read, play cards, cook, and was a wonderful storyteller. She deeply loved God, her children, and grandchildren. Mary Jo referred to her children as her “crown jewels”. Her family describes her as “grace personified”.

Mary Jo’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Memorial Medical Center for their loving care and compassion – Dr. Desai, Dr. Shetty, Dr. Rahbar and Dr. Jha; Allison, Michelle, Robert, Rebecca, Elle, Alexa, Emma, Paige, and many countless others. And to Dr. Nguyet Le-Lindqwister of IL Cancer Care in Peoria, IL.

Visitation: 9:00 am – 10:45 am, Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10 am, Monday, September 9, 2019 at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield
