Mary J. Link
Mary J. Link, an amazing 90-year-old and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, quietly passed away on Thursday August 24, 2017, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born January 14, 1927, in Springfield to Fred C. and Myra Fern Garrett Brown. She married Albert Link on July 4, 1948. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2010.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, three sisters; one daughter, Judy Hoffman; one grandson, Tim Link; and one daughter-in-law, Elaine Link.
Survivors include her four children: Bill Link of Carlinville, Jan (Matt) Filicsky of Danville, Dave (Tricia) Link of Springfield, and Tom (Tina) Link of Taylorville; Ten grandchildren, Steve, John Ryan, Tyler, Taylor, Tarryn, and Taryssa Link, Dave (Hillary) Hoffman, Jim (Ashley) and Geoff (Megan) Desmond; one granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Thornton; eight great-grandchildren, Helena and Jaxon Link, Griffin, Ryan, and Chloe Hoffman, and Alex, Jake, and Claire Desmond, and several nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Mary was a sweet, fun-loving, quick-witted lady of many talents, a gifted vocalist and pianist. She worked as an elementary music teacher for School District 186 for 20 years. She was a lifelong member of First Church of the Brethren where she served as organist for over 60 years; she dearly loved her church family.
Mary was a member of Springfield Ceramics and Craft Club, Red Hats Society and Silver Steppers. She served as an RSVP volunteer for many years.
Mary loved to travel, and in her lifetime, traveled to all 50 states. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and crafts, but most of all, her family and friends were her biggest passion.
The family will be hosting a Gathering from 10 am – 12 pm, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at First Church of the Brethren, 2115 Yale Blvd. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 pm, with Pastor Kreston Lipscomb officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Judy Hoffman Scholarship Fund or the John Link Benefit Fund.
