Mary Agnes "Aggie" Thomas
Mary Agnes “Aggie” Thomas, 87, of Springfield died on August 31, 2017 at her home. Aggie was born on August 24, 1930 in Springfield the daughter of Patrick and Anna Blanche Dougherty. She graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana with a degree in accounting and worked for many years in this field. Aggie received her master’s degree at Sangamon State University /UIS. She also taught accounting and Business at Ursuline Academy and Lincoln Land Community College. She married Bob Thomas in 1959. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Glenn Thomas, husband Bob Thomas and two brothers, James and Lawrence Dougherty. A special brother in law Mick Ryan preceded her in death by just a few weeks.
She is survived by three daughters, Connie Bourland (Greg), Christie Jones and Marie Thomas, all of Springfield. She is also survived by her beloved and dear grandchildren, Jacki Herington (Russ) of Springfield, Jayme Mazzone (Lewis) of Port Richey FL, Zach Bourland (Sami) of Staunton, IL and Christa Bourland of Louisville, KY as well as her precious Great Grandson, Russell Thomas Herington of Springfield. She is also survived by sisters Fran Ryan and Marg Greer (Richard), brother, Leo Dougherty (Norma), sister-in-law Marilee Cochran, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Aggie and Bob spent many wonderful times with her sister Fran and deceased brother in law Mick Ryan. She was a loyal Illini fan and loved each year when football and basketball season started. She and Bob shared many amazing camping trips together and especially loved their time in Sault Saint Marie and the upper peninsula of Michigan. She was well loved and she loved well.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 5 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Medical Center’s Hospice Sharing Wishes Fund.
