Marjorie Watts, 96, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Concordia Village. She was born on November 10, 1925, in Tilstock, Shropshire, England to Albert and Annie (Adams) Bromfield. She married John J. Watts on May 3, 1947. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2002.

She is also preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Molly Cockshott, Nancy Clarkson, Kathleen Hohertz, and Edith Hancock.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Dave) Pivovarnik of Springfield; son, Jeremy Watts of Bellevue, WA; three grandchildren, John Pivovarnik of Geneseo, Jennifer (Rob) Livingston, of Carterville and Jane Pivovarnik (Andy Nash) of Carbondale; four great-grandchildren, Henry Pivovarnik, Owen and Emily Livingston, and Felix Nash; sister, Joyce Thompson of Normal; cousin, Betty Stockwell of England; and several nieces and nephews.

In England, Marjorie, upon finishing secondary school, attended Business College and worked for an attorney. She then enlisted in the Woman’s Royal Air Force (WRAF) during World War II. She spent three months learning Morse Code, preparing to intercept enemy coded messages. After WWII, she was sent to an air force base as a typist and to take shorthand. There she met her husband who was in the British Army.

They moved from England to Springfield in 1957. Marjorie was employed as a secretary for Saint John’s Hospital, later retiring from the Franciscan Motherhouse.

Marjorie and her husband John helped bring youth soccer to Springfield. They established and lined many soccer fields in Central Illinois. Marjorie was very proud to have traveled on the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in 2012. She is a member of The Cathedral Church of St. Paul and enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation: 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, Monday, July 25, 2022 at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul.

Memorial Mass: 12:00 pm, Monday, July 25, 2022 at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul with Reverend Andrew Hook officiating.
