Marjorie L. Thomas
Marjorie L. Thomas, 92, of Springfield, peacefully passed, surrounded by her loving family at 10:34 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born February 23, 1922 in Pawnee, to Royal Hunter and Clintie M. Burt White. She married Edward John Thomas on June 14, 1944 and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1981.
She is survived by her two daughters, Leah Sue (George) Banfield of Springfield and Kathy (John) Hesch of Raleigh, NC; one son, Edward J. “Jack” (Tina) Thomas of Chatham; seven grandchildren, Susan (Dennis) Banfield O’Donnell of Springfield, Damon (Sarah) Banfield of Charleston, SC, Lance (Rachel) Thomas of Edinburg, Nick Thomas of Springfield, Michael Hesch of Raleigh, NC, Brian Hesch of Raleigh, NC and Abbi Thomas of Chatham; five great grandchildren, Ryan, Aimee and Brady O’Donnell, Dylan and Carter Banfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Hiram, James and Harwood White and three sisters, Ruth Haizlip, Esther Ruby and Leah Jacobs.
Marjorie graduated from Illinois Business College. She retired in 1991 after 35 years of service for the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration as an executive secretary. She was a member of Southside Christian Church where she served in many areas of the church. Marge was active in many community organizations throughout her life and also volunteered at Memorial Medical Center for more than twenty years. She loved to travel and was a member of Symphony Guild and Christian Woman’s Club in the Springfield community. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who was loved by all who knew her.
Visitation: 1-3 pm, Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 3 pm, Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Edinburg Cemetery.
