Marissa Marie Brown
Marissa Marie Brown, 23, of Springfield, went to be with Jesus on Monday, November 23, 2015 surrounded by family at her home. She courageously faced cancer for the past two and a half years. She was born September 10, 1992 in Ft. Wayne, IN, to Rick L. and Theresa M. Krzyzek Brown.
She is will be missed by her parents; one sister, Tricia Brown of Louisville, KY; paternal grandma, Reba Brown; several aunts and uncles, David (Andrea) Brown of Golden, CO, Dolores Podobinski of Spring Valley, IL, Carol Ernat of LaSalle, IL, Rick Krzyzek of Peru, IL, Ruth (Jim) Weber of Mendota, IL, Mary Jane (Jack) Tuttle of Champaign, IL, Lois (Pete) Mikleton of South Beloit, IL, Rita (Bob) Rose of Rockford, IL, Duane (Julie) Krzyzek of Rockford, IL, and Tom (Suzanne) Krzyzek of LaMoille, IL and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ruth and Anthony Krzyzek; paternal grandpa, Paul Richard “Dick” Brown; one aunt, Phyllis Krzyzek; four uncles, Ken Krzyzek, Stanley Podobinski, Harry Ernat and Denny Ruehlman and two cousins Tyler Krzyzek and Jennifer Ruehlman.
Marissa graduated from Glenwood High School in 2011 and was an alumnus of Anderson University, Anderson, IN. She was an avid social media user. At college, she was a member of Camarada Social Club and active in Bound, a student-led group to spread awareness about human trafficking. She enjoyed spending time with her cousins, reading, baking and going to Disneyworld.
Visitation: 3-7 pm Friday, November 27, 2015 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church. Additional visitation 10-11 am, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Nelsen officiating.
Private burial will be held at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Marissa Marie Brown Memorial Fund in care of Prairie State Bank. She requested that funds be used to establish a scholarship at Anderson University for students diagnosed with cancer and for Neurofibromatosis and Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor research.
