Marion E. Ontis
Marion E. Ontis, 91, of Springfield, died at 7:55 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1924 in Lincoln, Illinois, to Warren J. and Bertha (Dillon) Ontis. He married Charlene Koleske on September 3, 1987 and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Alice (Robert) Brandon and Sandra (Richard) Kahne both of Springfield; two step-daughters, Leigh Anne (Rocky) Yocum and Ronda Brown both of Athens; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, three brothers; one daughter, Janice Kidd and one infant son.
Marion was of the Christian faith. He was a lifetime member of Carpenters Local 270 and a member of AARP. He was a former member of Pawnee Pioneer Camping Club. He loved fishing, traveling, woodworking, riding motorcycles, spending time with his family and his beloved pet, Lexie.
He retired in 1986 from SIU School of Medicine where he worked as Chief Maintenance Engineer; He also worked on the gas pipeline in Moab, UT and for Pacific Railroad; CA Dawson and in Engineering at Memorial Medical Center.
Mr. Ontis was a US Navy veteran serving from 1942-1945 during WWII.
Memorial Gathering: 10 am – 12 pm, Friday, December 18, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 12 noon, Friday, December 18, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Gebhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
