Marina A. Kufadkis
Marina A. Kufdakis, 90, of Springfield, died at 4:37 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2011 at her residence. She was born March 21, 1921 in Trenton, NJ to Nicholas and Catherine Georgiadou Loukas. She married Aristides D. Kufdakis on April 5, 1941 in Greece and he preceded her in death on September 28, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Effie K. Barber and Cate (Dewayne) Meyer both of Springfield; one son, James N. (Elba) Kufdakis, MD of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren, Brad (Trudell) Barber of Springfield, Marni (Paul) Countryman of Springfield, Christopher (Amy) Meyer of Springfield, Phillip Meyer of Springfield, Arthur Kufdakis and Susan Kufdakis both of Tulsa, OK; two step grandsons, Jose’ Orriolla of Puerto Rico and Louis Orriolla of Beardstown; 11 great-grandchildren; one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marina was a member of St. Anthony’s Hellenic Orthodox Church and St. Mary’s Philoptohos Society (past president). She was a volunteer nurse for the Greek Royal Navy during WWII. She was a member of the Springfield Medical Society Auxiliary, Springfield Art Association, Springfield Symphony Guild, Lalla Rookh #218, Island Bay Yacht Club, and Sangamo Club. She loved to play bridge, crafts, traveling and gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a resident of Springfield most of her life havng been raised in the Athens area of Greece. She was a homemaker.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hellenic Orthodox Church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hellenic Orthodox Church with Reverend Anthony Tzortzis officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
