Marie E. Valenti

Marie E. Valenti, 87, of Springfield, died at 9:00 am, Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born December 28, 1929, daughter of William H. and Helen T. (Toebbe) Urban in St. Louis, MO. She married James Valenti on April 27, 1957. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a cousin, Helen Groesch and two nephews, John E. Groesch and Walter A. Groesch.

Mrs. Valenti attended S.S. Peter & Paul Grade School and graduated from Ursuline Academy. She was then employed by Burroughs Corporation (UNISYS) for 42 years, taking early retirement in March of 1989. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, the Altar & Rosary Society and St. Louise DeMarillac Guild. Upon retirement she volunteered as a Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital for over 20 years and received a commendation for having over 6,000 hours of volunteer work.

She is survived by nieces and nephews Lisa Groesch of Springfield, George (Kathy) Groesch of New Berlin, Nick Groesch of Chambersburg, Karen (Mick) Hudson of Decatur, Clarissa (Ernie) Pickett of New Berlin, Virginia (Terry) Daugherty and Barbara Wood both of Springfield and Sam (Margie) Valenti of Surprise, AZ. She is also survived by many cousins, great nephews and nieces and great great nephews and nieces.

Visitation: 11 am – 12 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Funeral Mass: 12 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
