Margaret S. Pierce
Margaret S. Pierce, 93, of Springfield, IL, died at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born November 2, 1917 in Johnston City, IL to John and Mary Valko Simko. She married Patrick Stanley Pierce on May 10, 1940 and he preceded her in death on July 3, 2011. Also preceding her in death are her parents; two sisters, Anna Kochevar and Mary Walter; three brothers, Emil Kusturin, Steve Larkin and infant Willy.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth (Bill Yu) Pierce-Yu of Springfield; one son, Dennis (Shirley) Pierce, Sr. of Springfield; five grandchildren, Claire Yu (Fiancé Alex Winning), Norah Yu, Pierce Yu, Dennis (Phyllis) Pierce, Jr. and Larry Pierce; two great grandchildren, Sydnie and Maxwell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Margaret was a member of Church of the Little Flower; American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and enjoyed spending time with her family. She worked for the Illinois Emergency Relief Commission, the Secretary of State and retired as Deputy Clerk for the probate division at the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s office.
Visitation: 3-5 p.m., Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 14, 2011 at Church of the Little Flower with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Private family burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Little Flower School or St. Joseph’s Home.
