Margaret Mary "Marge" Burns
Margaret “Marge” Groesch Burns, 85, of Springfield, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born on March 4, 1927 in Springfield to Edward and Frances Merklin Groesch. Her husband of 61 years, Michael Bernard Burns, preceded her in death on July 1, 2011.
Marge leaves her two sons, Jim (Mary Ann) Burns of Linn, MO and Richard (Andrea) Burns of Port Orange, FL; two daughters, Ruth (Joe) Donelan of Fairhope, AL and Jean (Jim) Allen of Rochester; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Rita (Renato) Favero of Springfield and Dolores “Sunny” Owensby of Colorado; six sisters-in-law, Lorene “Abe” Groesch, Margie Ann Jorgenson, Betty Hardin and Frannie Hooper all of Springfield; Rose Hergenrother of Pleasant Plains and Mary Ellen Vetter of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents; two infant siblings; four brothers, Fr. Edward, Louis, Lubert and Joseph Groesch; one sister, Loretta Bowman; two sons, Michael and Patrick and one grandson Jamey preceded her in death.
Marge was a member of Saint Aloysius Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a full time homemaker, as well as in-home child care provider for many years and worked part time in the Business Office at St. John’s Hospital for over 25 years. She was a sports enthusiast – watching her children and grandchildren participate in a variety of sporting events. Marge was an avid tennis player advancing to state level competition in Senior Olympics several times playing doubles with her sister, Rita. Marge enjoyed going for her daily walk, attending Mass, bowling and playing Bingo as often as she could.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Sunday, August 26 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 4 pm.
Memorial Mass: 12 noon, Tuesday , August 28, 2012 at St. Aloysius Parish with Reverend Tom Donovan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be may to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
