Margaret Ann Hill
Margaret Ann Hill, 83, of Springfield passed away September 2, 2011 in Grenada, MS. She was born November 7, 1927 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Albert and Anna Washicko Smith. She married William H.”Bill” Hill, Sr. on September 2, 1950 and he survives.
Margaret was a graduate of Pawnee High School, and received her B.A. from Sangamon State University May 11, 1980. She worked as a professional secretary at the American Heart Association and St. John’s Hospital, where she retired in 1988. She was also a member of The Professional Secretary’s Association, Anchor Boat Club, and The Oaks. During 18 years of her retirement, she and her husband lived in Diamondhead, MS where she was a member of the Diamondhead Country Club, the Bayou Belles Ladies Golf League, PEO and “Sew and Sew.” In 2006, the Hills returned to Springfield after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast. During her final years in Springfield, Margaret was a member of Christ the King Church, St. John’s Retirees, Pawnee Lunch Bunch, and PEO. She also sang in the Christ the King funeral choir and played in the Pasfield Golf Course Saturday Night Couples League.
She is survived by her husband Bill; children William “Bill” H. Hill, Jr. (Carol) of Diamondhead, MS, Lu Ann Groesch (C. William) of Springfield, and Brian L. Hill of Canyon Country, CA.; grandchildren Sarah J. Groesch Chandler (Jeff) of Springfield, Hannah L. Hill and William H. “Hank” Hill, III of Diamondhead, MS, Kyle D. Hill and Justin L. Hill of Canyon Country, CA.; great-grandchildren Levi James and Anne Elizabeth Chandler of Springfield, sister Mary Ellen Wood (Dale) and many nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joan E. Marcy, grandson Mark William Groesch and great-grandson Luke William Chandler.
Memorial Mass: A memorial mass will be held at Christ the King Church, 1920 Barberry Drive, Springfield, on Thursday September 8, 2011 at 10:30 am, with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Interment at Camp Butler National Cemetery will be immediately following the mass.
