Mamie M. Hegland, 89, of Springfield, died at 10:59 am, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital.

She was born April 25, 1924 in Springfield, to Joseph and Grace Gucciardo Montalbano. She married Robert W. Hegland on May 22, 1948 and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1988.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan (Rick) Winningham of Sherman and Diane Hegland of Springfield; one son, Randy (Kathy) Hegland of Divernon; five grandsons, Rob (Andrea) Hegland, Derek (Fiance’ Amy Hurley) Winningham and Scott (Girlfriend: Alexis Niesel) Winningham; Andrew (Abby) Detmers and Thomas (Breanne) Detmers; two great grandsons, Patrick and Gavin; several nieces, nephews and cousins including, Mickie Coulton, Mamie Unser, Sam and Frank Montalbano.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Joseph Hegland; one sister, Angie Rebbe and one brother Tony Montalbano.
Mamie was a board member of AARP and volunteered at the food bank. She enjoyed playing Bunco and spending time with her family. She was a homemaker and had worked at the International Shoe Factory.

Visitation: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 1 pm, Monday, August 12, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Sister Maira Barry officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
