M. Rosann Monyak O.S.F.
Sister M. Rosann Monyak, O.S.F. (84) of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis died on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 4:45 p.m. at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Illinois.
Sister Rosann, the former Ann Therese Monyak, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 27, 1923, the daughter of Anthony John and Rose Janiak Monyak. She entered the Congregation on September 8, 1950, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1953.
Sister Rosann served the community in various clerical roles at hospitals in Springfield, Decatur, and Litchfield, Illinois. She also performed mission work in Chinle, Arizona. For many years, she served as an operator at the Convent switchboard. She retired to the Motherhouse in 2001.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Rose Babinec, Sister Rosallita Monyak, OSF, and Josephine Babinec.
She is survived by two brothers: Anthony Monyak of Cleveland, Ohio, and John Monyak of Brookpark, Ohio, and two sisters: Helen Felgar of Cleveland, Ohio, and Cecilia Riegels of Pensacola, Florida. and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 58 years.
Visitation was held at the Motherhouse from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Wake Service at 6:30 PM on Thursday, June 26,2008. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, OFM, on Friday, June 27,2008, at 9:00 a.m. in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
