M. Georgene Tappa OSF
SPRINGFIELD – Sister M. Georgene Tappa, OSF, 99, of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 2:30 a.m. at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, IL.
Sister Georgene, the former Cecelia Georgene Tappa, was born in Stiles, WI, on February 19, 1911, the daughter of Alexander and Louise Reed Tappa. She entered the Congregation on October 2, 1930, and professed her religious vows on May 18, 1933.
Sister was a graduate of Fontbonne College, St. Louis, MO. She served the community as a dietician at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1998.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Alexander Tappa Jr., and three sisters, Verna Skinner, Eleanor Carlson and Evangeline Reeder.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Van Dolan of Appleton, WI, and Darlene Wegner of Menomonee Falls, WI; several nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared her life for over 79 years.
Visitation will be held at St. Francis Convent from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, OFM, on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
