SPRINGFIELD – M.A. Jones, 80, of Springfield, died Friday, September 28, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born August 23, 1927 in Springfield, IL, the son of M.A. and Ruth L. DeCrastros Jones, Sr. He married Helen L. Elder on March 31, 1951. His father, in 1947, and mother, in 1985, preceded him in death.
Mr. Jones was a electrician with Egizii Electric, retiring after more than 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII. He was a 59-year member of IBEW Electrical Workers #193. He was also a member of American Legion Post #759 and Eagles Aerie #437. He was a master craftsman and enjoyed making crafts with his wife, Helen. Mr. Jones liked spending time with his friends at Harry’s Adult Day Care. He was also a great cook at home and at all the family get-togethers. He enjoyed going to the boat in Peoria and was a Cardinals fan.
Survivors: wife, Helen L. Jones of Springfield; one sister, Betty Jane Westover of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Betty I. Staley; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews including Robert Ashton Westover; and several cousins.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Hospice.
Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2007. Services: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2007, Dr. Roger Rominger officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
