Lula Mae Cockrell
SPRINGFIELD – Lula Mae Cockrell, 74, of Springfield died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Overton, Mo., the daughter of Chap and Edith Boles Overton Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; six brothers; a daughter, Dianne Ewing; and a son, Dale Smith; and three granddaughters.
She is survived by nine children, Norman (Cynthia) Overton, Lottie Naudain, Monica (John) Turner, and Glenda Holman, all of Springfield, Kittie (Johnny) Grier of Columbus, Ga., and Marnal Commer-Smith, Shelene Ford, Denitta Brown, and LeMar Smith, all of Springfield; a son-in-law, Shane Ford; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Lavoy Tuggle of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lula was a resident of Springfield since 1962.
She was a self-employed child care provider, homemaker and had retired from Cravens Laundry in Springfield. She was a member of Abundant Faith Christian Center.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Abundant Faith Christian Center, with Pastor Jerry Wayne Doss officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
