Lucille Whitehead, 104, of Springfield, died at 5:08 pm, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born February 3, 1911 in Peoria, to Joseph and Sarah McVeitty O’Dea. She married Laurence Whitehead on April 22, 1933 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1979.
Survivors include one daughter, Sara Druffel of Macomb; one daughter-in-law, Terri Whitehead of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren; William (Theresa) Druffel, Melinda (Alan) Bridges, David (Elizabeth) Druffel and Richard (Kristi) Whitehead and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sons, Robert and Richard Whitehead; one grandson, Christopher Whitehead and one brother, Bernard O’Dea.
Lucille met all of the challenges of her life, with courage and resilience. Before her eyes failed, she spent countless hours reading, knitting and crocheting. Friends everywhere and staff at St. Joseph’s Home were recipients of her needlework. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Funeral Mass: 10 am, Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel with Reverend Thomas Royer
officiating. Burial will follow at 3 pm at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Canton, Illinois.
