SPRINGFIELD – Lola Mae Berkley, 81, of Springfield died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at her home.

She was born March 28, 1927, in Girard, the daughter of George and Lydia Ragland Pitchford. She was first married to Web Hart on April 10, 1946, in Carlinville; he preceded her in death on March 10, 1948. She then married Raybern Berkley on Jan. 15, 1950, in Carlinville; and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2000. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janice DuPont; a sister; and five brothers.

Mrs. Berkley, a resident of Springfield since 1949, was a homemaker. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren, AARP and Christian Women’s Group. She was a past volunteer at Lewis Memorial Christian Village and a former member of Sangamon County Home Extension. She was a member of the Harvard Park Neighborhood Association. She enjoyed gardening, reading, needlepoint, spending time with her family and playing dominos. She was a great cook and baker.

Surviving are a son, Jerry (wife, Anna) Berkley of Springfield; a son-in-law, Rick DuPont of Springfield; four grandchildren, Adam (wife, Amanda) Berkley of Springfield, Amy (husband, Gary) White of Pawnee, Kenny Kauffman serving in Afghanistan, and Sarah Berkley of Springfield; four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Casey Berkley and Tyler and Ethan White; a stepgrandson, Lance DuPont of Springfield; sister, Dorothy (husband, Gene) Bushue of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Carl Dean (wife, Dora) Pitchford of Springfield and Wilton (wife, Marylou) Pitchford of Lilburn, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Kreston Lipscomb officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Virden.
