Leonard J. Peacock
SPRINGFIELD – Leonard J. Peacock, 64, of Springfield, formerly of Edinburg, died at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born April 4, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Leonard and Eva Stengel Peacock. He married Joann Teubner, Feb. 8, 1963; she preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1976. He them married Gloria Stoll on June 22, 1984. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Peacock was owner of Len’s IGA in Edinburg from 1974 until the early 1980s and then retired as a contractor at CILCO.
He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick’s Church. He graduated from Griffin High School and Springfield College in Illinois. He was a continuous league bowler since ninth grade, his average bowling score was a 206. His scores have been three 300s; two 299s, five times he had 11 strikes in a row; and in 2006 eight 700’s. He had seven league championships at Spillway North. He was a member of the Taco Gringo M&M League; and was a two-time league champion. He was a member of the King Pinners League and was also a two-time league champion, the Jack Deye League Bricklers.
Surviving are his wife, Gloria Peacock; four daughters, Kim (Kent) Wagahoff of Raymond, Karen (Jerry) Ayers of Mechanicsburg, Danielle (Lindy) Pope of Kincaid and Janet Peacock (partner, Chaundra Smith) of Decatur; two sons, Derek (Tina) Stoll of Taylorville and Michael Peacock of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Deb Blevins of Edinburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Prayers there at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rev. Michael Haag officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
