Leona V. Wirth
Leona “Lona” V. Wirth, 90, of Springfield died at 4:38 am, Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born June 4, 1921 in Chatham, Illinois to Ray and Ruth Neal Douglas. She married John Wirth in 1952 and he preceded her in death in 1971. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother Loren Douglas.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Helen Ann Hemming, Virginia Smith, Oren “Skip” Douglas and Judy McCubin; several special friends and caregivers, Sandy Urbas, Steve (Jeri) Ferrier, Mike Armstrong and Mindy (Mitch) Ruger all of Springfield.
Lona was a member of AARP and a former Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital. She worked as a Deputy Assessor for Capital Township for twelve years, retiring in 1986.
Visitation: 11am – 1pm, Friday, January 6, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1 pm, Friday, January 6, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Robert Green officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Cemetery in Chatham.

Mindy, So sorry to learn of Leona's passing. She was such a sweet lady. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend to my aunt & uncle, Phyllis & Adolph DiGirolamo. They truly enjoyed and appreciated her. You were a blessing to her. May she now rest in peace.
