Leo "Ray" Friedman
Leo “Ray” Friedman, 88, of Springfield, died at 3:30 pm Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 3, 1927 in Springfield, to Walter and Irene Schmitz Friedman. He married Norma Jean Young in 1952 and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Debbie K. Friedman, Ann M. (Steve) Fawns and Rebecca L. (Charles) Steele all of Springfield and Barbara Kunzweiler of Sherman; two sons, Michael L. (Susan) Friedman and Stephen A. Friedman both of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Cindy, MacKenzie, Mallorie, Trace, Skylar and Aidyn; one step-grandson, Adam Hawley; one half-brother, James “Jimmy” Friedman of New Berlin and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cindy and two half-brothers, Louis and Joseph.
Mr. Friedman was a member of St. Cabrini Church. He was a US Army Veteran where he served with the 8th Field Artillery Battalion in Japan. He was a member of the American Legion and an Auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary.
He worked as a carpenter for thirty two years for various companies and retired as custodian for St. Cabrini Church.
Visitation: 9-10 am Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Cabrini Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Cabrini Church with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
