Leo B. Stanks
SPRINGFIELD – Leo V. Stanks, 88, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 6:53 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Springfield, the son of William and Mary Lipiecke Stanks. He married Marjorie Clay on Oct. 4, 1943. His parents; son, John J. Stanks; sister, Ceil Fleck; and two brothers, Vincent and Edward Stanks, preceded him in death.
Mr. Stanks worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation, retiring in 1991. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, American Legion Post 32 and Disabled American Veterans Post 15.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Stanks of Springfield; daughter, Lisa (husband, Tom) Duffy of Osceola, Ind.; two grandchildren, Kennedy and Cassidy Duffy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with prayers at 4 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Peter Harman officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League.
