Lawrence R. O'Brien
Lawrence R. O’Brien, 98, of Springfield, died Saturday, May 16, 2015, at St. John’s Hospital. He was born January 8, 1917, in Springfield to Edward L. and Mary H. Murphy O’Brien. He married Mildred B. Hurst on August 9, 1938, and she preceded him in death on April 29, 1972. He married Mary Alice Robinson on December 7, 1984, and she preceded him in death on October 22, 2013. His parents; one daughter, LuAnn Johnson; two sisters, Eleanor O’Brien Schwartz and Nan O’Brien Jumper; three brothers, Jimmy, Bobby, and Ed O’Brien all preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Larry (Susan Yuscius) O’Brien of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Jenifer (Rudy Braud) Johnson, Jill (Ignacio) Loureiro both of Springfield, Joy (Chad) Wolfe of Chatham, Jewel O’Brien, and Megan O’Brien, Emma and Grace Robinson, all of Springfield; seven great grandchildren, Ian, Caroline, and Eliza Braud, Mikey Loureiro, Kaylie, Anna, and Delaney Wolfe; two step children, Reida (Tom) Hamrick of Chatham and Bill (Susan) Robinson of Springfield; two sisters, Peg Merk of Pasco, WA and Norene Davlin of Springfield; one brother, Jack (Sharon) O’Brien of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the owner of Ideal Café and also worked for the Illinois Supreme Court. He was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII. Lawrence was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Church, a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council #364, and a member of The Sons and Daughters of Erin.
Visitation: 4–7 pm, Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 pm.
Lie in State: 9-10 am Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at St. Agnes Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at St. Agnes Church with Rev. Robert Jallas officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Church.
