LaVerne A. Lehnen
LaVerne A. Lehnen, 96, of Springfield, died at 12:25 am, Friday, February 17, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born June 17, 1915 in Riverton, IL to Giuseppe and Anna Nunzia Novelli Santarelli. She married Robert Matthew Lehnen on June 17, 1939 and he preceded her in death on April 20, 2008.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (James) Mendenhall and Lois Adams; one son, Robert Wayne (Marilyn) Lehnen; seven grandchildren, Christina (William) McGlasson, Laura (Matthew) Katterhenry, David (Lisa) Adams, Matthew (Laura) Adams, Lisa (Jim) Ball, Jennifer (Matthew) Mangino and Jeremy (Staci) Lehnen; 10 great grandchildren, Ian and Katie McGlasson, Mason Katterhenry, Luke and Molly Adams and Sophia Adams, Joseph Lehnen, Emma Lehnen Griffin, Alex; Eva and Lillian Mangino; also expecting two great grandchildren in June, baby boy Adams and baby boy Ball; special niece Elinor Welch; two nephews Dominic Vespa and Thomas Santarelli and many cousins and great nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband; two sisters, Irene Vespa and Eda Murphy and three brothers, Walter, Silve and Edmund Santarelli preceded her in death.
LaVerne was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and Sangamon County Association for Home and Community Education (SCAHCE) Northernaires Unit.
She worked as a cook at St. Joseph’s School and was a banquet waitress at the Elks Club and area hotels. She enjoyed Italian cooking, crocheting, gardening and taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation: 9-10 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Church with Reverend Steven Janoski officiating.
