Larry W. Morey, 74, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born July 9, 1947, in Sandusky, OH, the son of Wayne E. and Betty Claire (Iehle) Morey and they preceded him in death. He married Susan Wienke February 28, 1969.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his loving children: two daughters, Kimberly and Natalie Morey, both of Springfield; three sons, Shawn Morey (fiancée, Lori Hermes and her daughter, Bella Carter) of New Berlin, Nathan (Terra) Morey of California and Jay Morey of Springfield; one grandchild, Phoenix; one brother, Gary Morey of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry worked as a systems analyst for Springfield School District #186. He taught computer and programming classes at the Adult Education Center and Lincoln Land Community College. He loved teaching and being with people. He was a United States Air Force veteran. During his entire tour at the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, he was an instructor, teaching upcoming pilots how to read and understand the instrument panels of the B-52 airplane. After leaving the Air Force, he attended the Computer Skills Institute of Cleveland, Ohio studying computer programming skills, taking all his classes on weeknights and weekends, graduating with the highest honors.

After moving to Illinois with his family, he attended Lincoln Land Community College, graduating with high honors and a degree in Computer Science. He was immediately asked to become an instructor, teaching computer classes.

Larry loved life and enjoyed being outdoors, playing games with his children, and mowing the grass. He enjoyed playing golf and softball, swimming, and taking bike rides with his family. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities. He later became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman.

Larry endured a long struggle with heart failure. We want to thank the many doctors and nurses at Prairie Heart Institute and St. John’s Hospital who helped take care of him through all the years with this illness. A special thank you to our God in heaven who walked this journey with him.
