L. Jane Fee
Lydia Jane Fee, 75, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020, at home.
Jane was born January 21, 1945 to Eugene and Doris (Abraham) Fee. A lifelong resident of Springfield, she was a graduate of Springfield High School and earned a B.A. from Sangamon State University.
In high school, Jane began her career as a clerk at Kresge’s, and worked at the Springfield Sun newspaper from 1964 to 1970. She was later employed by Menco Corp. as a bookkeeper. Then in 1985 she began her most cherished position, with the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Jane retired from ICASA in December, 2011, as Fiscal Manager.
Jane was a founding mother of Rape Information and Counseling Service (RICS), now Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault (PCASA), in 1975. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher and served several terms on the Church Council.
An outgoing and caring person, Jane enjoyed her friends, her dogs, and traveling. Her car’s bumper sticker read: “She who laughs, lasts.”
Jane is survived by her sister, Pat Tatman (Steve), niece Mindy Daley (Jamie), great nephews Frankie, Nolan and Jack Kulavic, all of Springfield; her nephew Mike Tatman (Karen) and great nephews Casey and Conner, of Naperville, IL; and a few cousins.
Jane is also survived by her life companion, Lee Gaeding, of Springfield, and her beloved “Smith Sisters.”
A private graveside service will be held, with a Celebration of Life to be scheduled later.
