Kenneth L. Dickerson
SPRINGFIELD – Kenneth L. Dickerson, 58, of Springfield, died at 10:52 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 11, 1950, in Springfield, the son of Kenneth R. and Alveta F. Hart Dickerson. He married Sharon Lynn Bortmess on Jan. 20, 1971; she preceded him in death on July 14, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Bortmess.
Mr. Dickerson, a resident of Springfield most of his life, was a printer at Franklin Life since 1968.
He was a member of St. Cabrini Church, a U.S. Army veteran, a life member of VFW Northenders 10302, DAV life member Hall Hagler Chapter 14 and an AMVETS life member. He was a Cardinals fan. He collected sports cards, sports memorabilia and coins.
Surviving are two sons, Scott (wife, Heather) Dickerson and Sean (wife, Amanda) Dickerson, both of Springfield; two grandchildren, Dylan and Kayla Dickerson; a brother, Ron (wife, Michele) Dickerson of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Jodi Bortmess of Springfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Bortmess of Mt. Sterling; an aunt, Jeanette Moore of Springfield; one uncle, Frank Perkins of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews including, Andy Dickerson of Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Christopher House officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
