Kenneth G. Thrasher
SPRINGFIELD – Kenneth Kenny Thrasher, 88, of Springfield died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born March 31, 1920, in Clinton, to Nora and Ross Thrasher. He married Jayne Ihlenfeldt in 1944, and she preceded him in death in 1979. He married Jo Ann Bogardus Phillips in 1981.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann; son, Kenneth L. (wife, Cheryl) Thrasher of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Marcella Phillips (companion, Donna Weatherholt) of Springfield and Cynthia Phillips (companion, Jeff Kuzma) of Rio, Wis.; a stepson, Edward (wife, Mareea) Phillips of Downey, Calif.; a sister, Marilyn (husband, Bill) Agee of East Peoria; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Donald Thrasher; and a sister, Delores Miller.
He retired in 1982. A member of Teamsters Local 916, he drove for Peoria Cartage, Norwalk and McBrides Express. He was a lifetime member of Tyrian Lodge 333. He served during World War II as a special agent in the security and intelligence division. He loved woodworking and playing the casino slots.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Austin officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
