Keith M. Larson
Keith M. Larson, 85, died June 3, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1930 in Springfield, IL to Frank A. and Clara Seward Larson. Keith married Marie Nelson on July 22, 1951 and graduated from Springfield High School in 1948.
Keith worked at Prairie Farms Dairy until he became a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 193. He retired from Franklin Life Insurance Company as Chief Electrician in 1995. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving two tours of duty with the US Navy aboard LST 1077, earning the Navy Occupation Service Medal, Korean service Medal with 3 bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal Citation, Republic of Korea Presidential Medal, Republic of Korea Peace Medal, and receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Springfield since childhood and served on the church council. He was a member of AmVets Post 257, life member of VFW Post 302 and was a lifetime member of Korean War Veterans National Museum and Library. Member of Central Mason Lodge 71 AF&AM., Valley of Springfield Consistory Ansar Temple, past president and Charter Life Member of Capitol City Shrine Club, “Sparkie” (his clown name) was a Charter life member of the Ansar Shrine Clowns, member of Ansar Legion of Honor and Ansar Shrine Retirees Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Herschel and Wayne Larson and one sister, Shirley Larson Whiteside.
Surviving are his wife of almost 65 years, Marie; daughter, Deborah-Lynn Slater; son, Rick Larson, both of Springfield; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 pm. An Elks service will be held. A second visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 am, Friday, June 10, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Friday, June 10, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
