Julia R. Becker
SPRINGFIELD – Julia R. Becker, 98, of Springfield died at 9:24 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Springfield, the daughter of George Henry and Louise Bartling Becker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry G. Becker; five sisters, Marie Becker, Sister Teresa Becker, Helene Becker, Carolyn Siebert and Angela O’Hara; and two nieces, Carol Sue Siebert and Louann T. Pittman.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Henry G. Bud (Kaye) Becker Jr. of North Olmsted, Ohio; the Rev. Robert T. Becker, William D. (Karen) Becker, John Barry (Pat) Becker, and Lynne (Court) Dickason, all of Springfield; Sister Madonna O’Hara and James E. (Sharon) O’Hara, both of St. Louis; David M. (Sharon) O’Hara of Fremont, Calif.; Marilyn M. (Charles) Beveridge of Bella Vista, Arkansas.; and John G. (Maureen) O’Hara of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was a lifelong resident of Springfield.
She retired from Sprouse-Kennedy-Hoecker Insurance Co. after 30 years as an underwriter.
She was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church. She was a member of PHILO Alumni of Springfield High School. She enjoyed gardening, especially her roses and tomatoes. She loved traveling by air, bus and train and visited every state. She especially enjoyed her Broadway shows in New York City. One of her favorite pastimes was reminiscing and telling stories about her family growing up. She was an avid visitor at the Illinois State Fair, spending many days there each year until the 1990s.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with visitation held one hour prior at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert T. Becker and Sister Madonna O’Hara officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
