Joseph Fred "Joe" Grobelnik

September 24, 1962 - October 30, 2021

Joseph (Joe) Fred Grobelnik, Jr. passed away at his home in Lavonia, Georgia on October 30, 2021 at the age of 59. He was born in Evreux, France on September 24, 1962. He still called Springfield, IL home, after moving to Georgia 4 years ago to be with his siblings. He is survived by his sisters Julie Leka (Kent), Jody Grobelnik, Jamie Grobelnik, and honorary sister Peggy Robinson. He loved his nieces and nephews: Katelyn, Emily, Ryan and Evan. He had a wonderful extended family including Rhonda Grobelnik (father’s wife), aunts Penny Bush, Tallie Basham, Carolyn Grobelnik and Mary Fuentes (Ed), uncles Bobby Grobelnik (Lilly), and Robert Miller (Loretta). He had many adored cousins and their families including Shannon Miller (Julie), Chris Miller (Pam), Eve Smith (David), Timmy Baker (Jan), Tammy Baker, Jimmy Baker (Sherry), Tracy McGrew (Mike), Christopher Reid (Heather), Michael Goin (Jaime), Misty Goin Brown (Mark), Joshua Grobelnik, Angie Zentgraf (Derek), Danny Grobelnik, Brandie Brown (Kenny), Amy Estes (Chad) and Dylan Martin (Kiara). He was preceded in death by both his parents Rosemary Grobelnik (partner Michael Dunham) and Fred Grobelnik, aunts Joan Baker (husband Jim) and Linda Micko (husband Dick), uncles George Miller and Mark Miller, Grandparents Fred and Eilene Grobelnik and George and Celeste Miller, and cousin Richie Micko. Joe graduated from Riverton High School, served in the United States Air Force for 5 years as an aircraft environmental systems mechanic receiving an honorable discharge and attended SIU. He spent the majority of his work life in building maintenance. He loved “fixing” things and could figure out how to do just about anything. He built electric bikes from scratch and was an avid reader – reading anything he could get his hands on. Although he did not marry, he believed in faithful love and each of the women in his life were forever loved and respected by him. Joe was generous in every aspect of his life with a huge, kind heart. He was loyal to his family and friends and was a perfectionist in all he did. He valued relationships more than material things in this world – maintaining life-long high school, military, college and work friendships. He had an incredible memory and loved to tell stories. Everyone Joe met was a friend to him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His body will be laid to rest at Camp Butler Cemetery with his dad, in honor of his military service and his close bond with his father.
