SPRINGFIELD. Joseph H. Metzger, 69, of Springfield, died Friday, July 27, 2007 at his home.
He was born June 15, 1938 in Springfield, IL, the son of Henry B. and Marietta M. VonBehren Metzger. He married Betty J. Gathman in 1957. He married Diana M. Aidich Ensch in 1971. His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Metzger retired as President of Metzgers Inc., a real estate consulting firm. He also was a general contractor and real estate developer, property manager, Illinois Licensed Real Estate Broker, and appraiser. He was a member of Christ the King. He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Lanphier High School in 1956. Mr. Metzger served in the 170th Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the Illinois Air National Guard with a honorable discharge in September, 1962. He served as Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development Universal Guaranty Life Insurance Co., Managing Broker of Beacon Real Estate, City of Springfield/Developers Agreement Committee in 1998, President of Capitol Area Association of Realtors 1999-2000, CAAR Realtor of the Year 2000, CAAR Hall of Fame 2001, City of Springfield Zoning Rewrite Committee 2000, Springfield/Sangamon County Comprehensive Plan Development Committee 2001, and Springfield/Sangamon County Land Subdivision Committee 2003.
Survivors: wife, Diana M. Metzger of Springfield; five children, Cathie M. (husband, Bill) Bryant of Springfield, Cindy J. (husband, David) Brunner of Springfield, Leigh Anne Neuman of Auburn, Michael N. (wife, Jeanne) Metzger of Las Vegas, NV, and John J. Metzger of Chicago; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Dorothy M. (husband, Stephen P.) Oross of Fort Wayne, IN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute, Memorial Home Services/Hospice, or St. Joseph’s Home.
Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2007 at Christ the King with prayers at 4:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Christ the King, Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
