SPRINGFIELD – Joseph Asafailo, 88, of Springfield died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 27, 1921, in Ukraine, the son of Nicholi and Anne Asafailo. He married Agnes Proc on Jan. 28, 1950.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Asafailo of Springfield; two daughters, Rose Marie (John) Kalinauskas of Lexington, Ky., and Anne (Joseph) Felber of Glenarm; two sons, Josef Asafailo of Jacksonville and Richard Asafailo of Riverton; five grandchildren, Cyndi (Dave) Willmarth, John (Jill) Kalinauskas, Ben (Tina) Felber, Suzi (Josh) Gasperini, and Eric Asafailo; eight great-grandchildren, Ellen, Emily, Keeghan, Chase, Isabella, Aiden, Madison and Olivia; and a niece, Stephanie (Stan) Biesada.
Joseph was a resident of Springfield since 1951. He was employed at St. John’s Hospital for 31 years and also worked as a master shoe craftsman.
He was a member of Christ the King Church, POLK of A, AARP, Polish Club and St. John’s Retirees.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Christ the King Church, with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
