SPRINGFIELD – John Rutkowski, 83, of Springfield died at 10:21 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Lomza, Poland, the son of Ludwig and Wanda Bossowska Rutkowski. He married Betty Johnson in 1957.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, wife: Betty Rutkowski of Springfield; 2 daughters, Gena Rutkowski and Brenda (Will) Sternitzke, both of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Hanna and Holly Sternitzke; 1 sister, Halina Bodnar of Lomza, Poland; and several nephews and cousins.
John was a resident of Springfield since 1955. He retired from Fiat-Allis after 30 years as a welder.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and The Polish Prairie Club. John was a member of the Polish Underground in WWII.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, Reverend David Hoeffler officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made for his grandchildren Hanna and Holly.
