John R. Mathes
SPRINGFIELD – John R. Mathes, 51, of Springfield died at 7:05 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 4, 1957, in Springfield, the son of Henry and Marie Brandon Mathes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Patrick Mathes.
He is survived by three sisters, Judith Mathes of Brodhead, Wis., Nancy (husband, Daniel) Schull and Donna Mathes, both of Springfield; a brother, Michael (wife, Dee-Dee) Mathes of Springfield; an aunt, Rita Frohwitter of Springfield; nieces and nephews, Dana (husband, Dan) Buehrle, Delane Orr, Danny Schull, Kendy (husband, Dave) Kress-Bobak and Christopher (wife, Kristin) Kress; several great-nieces and -nephews; and his dog, Sweet Pea, whom he adored.
John was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He worked for Phillips Brothers Printers and Tallahassee Democrat Newspaper.
He was of the Catholic faith. He belonged to the Graphic Communications International Union (GCIU).
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peter Harman officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Animal Protective League.
