John Paul Hine
John Paul Hine, 89, of Springfield, died at 11:15 pm, Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. John’s Hospice. He was born December 9, 1924, in Huntington, IN. He married Evelyn Hewes on August 23, 1947 and she survives.
Also surviving are five children, Mark (Lorna) Hine of Corrales, NM, Michael (Ann) Hine of Springfield, Patrice (Wayne) Johnsen of Sleepy Hollow, IL, Jeffrey (friend, June) Hine of Ft. Myers, FL and Timothy (Linda) Hine of South Bend, IN; fifteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Frazier of Laud, IN and one, sister-in-law, Marcene Hine of Roanoke, IN.
His parents and one brother Robert Martin Hine preceded him in death.
John was a US Navy veteran serving with the Sea Bees in WWII. He was a member of St. Agnes Church. He was a graduate of Tri State College with a Civil Engineering Degree. John was employed with the State of Illinois Department of Transportation for 24 years and worked for 17 years at Hanson Engineers. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and a Registered Land Surveyor. John was a member of Knights of Columbus #364, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers and Illinois Association of Highway Engineers.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Sunday, January 5, 2014 at St. Agnes Church. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 pm.
Lie in State: 9-10 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Agnes Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating.
Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Detail will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Church or St. Martin de Porres.

My sympathy to your family. I knew John through golfing at Pasfield and Bunn. We would also eat lunch together at Di's restaurant after golfing. Years ago, when John and Les Nichols were playing I would enjoy seeing the twinkle in John's eyes when he would make a long putt to beat Les. I also appreciated John's efforts on the Hine-Healy golfing trips. John was a pleasure to know.
