John Leo Saner
John Leo Saner, 72, of Springfield, died at 5:30 pm, Thursday, December 12, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born November 6, 1941, in Springfield, to Leo Benedict and Mabel Mary Arthalony Saner. He married Emilia “Nini” Mascunana on April 12, 1969 and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Heidi (Anthony) Tatar of Florissant, MO, Maria (Eloy Wouters) Saner of San Jose, CA, Angela Saner of Flagstaff, AZ and Jennifer (Fiancé: Mike Moser) Saner of Birmingham, AL; two sons, Anthony (Staci) Saner of Ft. Worth, TX and Matthew (Shannon) Saner of Chatham; eight grandchildren, Nate, Zach, Madison, Lucas, Oliver, Cooper, Pierce and Carson; two sisters, Mary Ellen (Henry) Schmidt of Petersburg and Tina (David) Symon of Seattle, WA; one brother, Robert (Bea) Saner of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Sharon Saner of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judith Saner, one brother, Bernard Saner and one granddaughter, Judy Tatar.
John was a member of Church of the Little Flower, where he was a member of the Men’s Club. He was a former Dominican Associate, St. John’s Samaritan, as well as a former member of the Caregiver Interfaith Volunteer Service and Centering Prayer Group. He enjoyed reading and spending time with family and grandkids.
He retired after 35 years as a civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, December 16, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 11 am, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Church of the Little Flower with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Private burial will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Little Flower Building Fund or the Holy Family Food Bank.

I'm sorry I didn't realize earlier that John had passed. John was a classmate at Cathedral High School. Very best wishes to all John's family.
