John E. "Jack" Jenkins, Jr.
John (Jack) E. Jenkins, Jr. 95, of Springfield, died at 12:38 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Home. He was born August 22, 1921, in Springfield, to John E. and Bessie Straights Jenkins. He married Alice Bohlmeyer on May 27, 1943, and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2014.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Jake) Goodrich of Peoria and Nancy (Harvey) Dunham of Springfield; one son, John Jenkins of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren; one great grandson and one brother Robert A. Jenkins of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one daughter, Linda K. Sorensen.
John was a US Navy veteran serving from 1942 – 1945, during which he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Elks Club.
John worked for Franklin Life Insurance Company and Sangamo Electric. In 1965 he became the first Data Processing Director for Sangamon County and retired from the State of Illinois after fifteen years of service.
Jack was an avid golfer and a friend to many.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Julia Melgreen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
